Invisalign® Treatment Options: Invisalign® for Overbite

At the cosmetic and general dentistry practice of N. Perry Orchard, D.D.S., we proudly offer the Invisalign® orthodontic system as an alternative to traditional metal braces. Invisalign® offers a multitude of benefits, some of which you might be aware, and others of which you might not. Yes, Invisalign® aligners are practically invisible when worn, making them far less conspicuous than their wire-and-bracket counterparts. Yes, they can be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating, making them more convenient and hygienic. And true, they are custom-crafted from a clear, non-abrasive plastic so that they are significantly more comfortable to wear.

However, you might not have known that Invisalign® aligners can be used to treat a diverse range of orthodontic issues in roughly the same amount of time – and with similarly excellent results – as traditional metal braces. Among the issues that can be effectively treated with Invisalign® is overbite. In discussing Invisalign® for overbite during consultations at his Corpus Christi, TX practice, Dr. N. Perry Orchard evaluates patients to ensure that he can achieve the best possible results with the aligners. If so, he proceeds to custom craft a series of aligners that will gently guide the teeth into their optimal positions, correcting the overbite and leaving the patients with straight, healthy teeth.

Are you dissatisfied with the appearance of your smile due to an overbite? If so, please schedule your initial consultation with Dr. N. Perry Orchard today.

What Is an Overbite?

Overbite refers to the condition in which the front teeth in the upper jaw overlap the front teeth in the lower jaw. While a slight overbite is not generally a problem, an excessive overbite can present aesthetic and bite concerns, in addition to potentially causing jaw pain.

How Does Invisalign® Correct Overbite?

Invisalign® has proven particularly effective at correcting overbite. Most patients with an overbite will be considered good candidates for Invisalign®. If you are a good candidate for Invisalign®, our dentists will create a three-dimensional image of your teeth and a mold of your mouth. These will then be sent to a certified Invisalign® laboratory, where your series of custom aligners will be crafted from a BPA-free plastic and returned to our practice.

You will wear each set of Invisalign® aligners for approximately two weeks. While you may remove them for eating, brushing, and flossing, you must wear them for at least 20 to 22 hours a day to achieve optimal results. After two weeks, you will replace your current set of aligners with the next in the series. Each set will move your teeth closer to their ideal positions in your mouth, gradually but definitively correcting your overbite. In general, most treatment for overbite requires about a year.
