Corpus Christi is perfect for the young and the young at heart. This beachside city satisfies those looking for sun, fun, adventure, and relaxation. Situated along the gorgeous calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Corpus Christi is on the map for its expansive sandy beaches, birdlife, parks, museums, and aquariums. But where do you start? Check out these recommendations.

1. Padre Island

No list of things to do in Corpus Christi would be complete without Padre Island right at the top. While many college-aged and party-hearty travelers are familiar with the southern island, the northern Padre Island is not overlooked. North Padre Island is far less crowded and has a nature preserve. You’ll see couples walking the beach hand in hand. And families love taking up hiking adventures or swimming in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

2. Mustang Island State Park

Mustang Island offers over five miles of beachfront. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, kayaking, camping, geocaching, and more. Mustang Island is a must-visit location if you are a nature lover. After a day of adventures, head south to enjoy a meal at Scuttlebutt’s Seafood Bar & Grill or Nom’s Kitchen.

3. Arkansas National Wildlife Refuge

During your visit to the Arkansas National Wildlife Refuge, check out the walking trails or enjoy the scenic, one-way driving route with easy access to trailheads and scenic stopping points. Located less than an hour’s drive from Corpus Christi, this 70,000-acre paradise serves as a winter home for endangered whooping cranes. You can also see alligators, snakes, and numerous birds living within the area’s expansive tidal flats, salt marshes, grasslands, and freshwater ponds.

4. South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center

Despite the warm climate in Texas, Corpus Christi is full of colorful blooms and fragrant aromas. If flowers are your thing, check out the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. With a gorgeous orchid house and a hibiscus garden, you’ll start Googling how to create one at home. And while you are there, pop into the butterfly house or reptile room. You may meet one of the resident macaws or African grays.

5. Bob Hall Pier

If you are looking for some great photo ops along the Gulf, be sure to visit Bob Hall Pier. Located on Padre Island in Padre Balli Park, Bob Hall Pier spans 1,240 feet into the Gulf of Mexico. Perfect for tourists, you can catch glimpses of anglers and vendors selling their tackle and bait. You can even participate in the Tackle Loaner Program if you want to attempt to create a great fish story of your own. Come with cash or a card to pay the small tourist fee.

6. Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center

Owned and operated by the City of Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department, the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center is a 162-acre nature preserve that will leave you wondering more about our natural world and how we can preserve it for future generations. Enjoy two miles of nature viewing trails, and learn about the importance of protecting the wetlands.

7. Heritage Park

If you love architecture and historical buildings, Heritage Park is a must-see on your list of beautiful places to visit this spring in Corpus Christi. The park contains twelve historical Corpus Christi homes, many of which are recorded as Texas Historical Landmarks. Each of these lovely homes stands in tribute to the area’s ethnic and cultural diversity. The oldest house dates back to 1851.

8. Packery Channel Nature Park

Looking for something to do in between other activities? Pay a visit to Packery Channel Nature Park. Enjoy the kayak trail, fishing access, or the birding boardwalk, perfect for an hour-long visit.
