10 Fun Ways To Celebrate Summer in Corpus Christi, Texas

Enjoy summer in Corpus Christi

Best Corpus Christi Summer Activity Ideas

It’s that time of year when all most people can do in Corpus Christi, Texas, is dream about nicer weather and all the things we’ll be able to enjoy when it finally comes back around. But while summertime may still be a few months away, that doesn’t mean you can’t at least start planning out some activities.

Here’s a list of 10 of the best things to do during the summer in Corpus Christi. Mark a few down in your calendar and make a day out of them when summer finally rolls around.

1. Go to the beach.

Spending the day on the beach is the ultimate summer activity, and Corpus Christi, Texas, has more than a few ways to do it. From Mustang and Padre Island to McGee, North, and Whitecap beaches, there are countless places to enjoy the sun, sand, and beautiful blue waters of either the Gulf of Mexico or Corpus Christi Bay.

2. Enjoy some beach activities.

Our beaches also offer a number of fun summer activities for you to consider. Horseback riding on the sand is popular, as are water activities such as windsurfing, Jet Skiing, kayaking, and more.

3. Have a meal outside.

It’s easy to take outdoor dining for granted until the weather no longer accommodates it. Now that the weather is on the upswing, it’s time to take advantage of the relatively small window in which having a meal and watching the sun set is a viable option. Fortunately, Corpus Christi, Texas, has many places for you to do just that.

If you’re looking for great picnic spots, there are parks all along the bay with tables or grassy areas for laying out a blanket. Take a look at Bayfront, Poenisch, Brookdale, or Cole Park for some of the best. Just make sure to limit foods and drinks that cause teeth staining!

4. Eat at a waterfront restaurant.

If you’d rather sit down for an outdoor meal, there are plenty of options. Snoopy’s Pier is a local landmark that offers dining right on the water. Pier 99 is another great spot for waterfront dining, and it even has the USS Lexington as a backdrop.

Other great outdoor dining spots include Doc’s Seafood and Steaks, Blackbeard’s on the Beach, and Boathouse Bar & Grill.

5. Go to a baseball game.

Nothing says summer fun like America’s pastime. Whataburger Field is home to the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros’ Double-A affiliate. The tickets are affordable, the stadium is beautiful, and the ambiance is immaculate.

6. Celebrate the solstice.

Ever since the advent of indoor lighting, it seems the longest day of the year has been getting less and less appreciation as time goes by. However, there’s quite literally no other day of the year like the summer solstice, making it one of the most underrated days to celebrate on the entire calendar.

If you’re looking for the perfect time to have a picnic and enjoy the warm weather as the sun sets at a waterfront park, it’s the day of the summer solstice. It’s always a good plan to start celebrating summer in Corpus Christi as soon as possible because before you know it, it’ll all be behind you.

7. Visit a museum.

Once the weather really starts to heat up in Corpus Christi, it can be a bit overbearing for a full day of outdoor activities. Fortunately, the summer fun isn’t all outdoors. There are plenty of indoor activities you can do to keep cool.

Corpus Christi has plenty of museums and interesting historical sites of all kinds. Some of the most popular are the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, the Art Museum of South Texas, and the Selena Museum.

8. Visit the USS Lexington.

The USS Lexington is a World War II aircraft carrier with a remarkable history that you can learn all about by boarding the actual ship itself and taking a tour. New sections of the ship are being opened to the public all the time, so keep an eye out for new ways to experience this piece of American history.

9. Go to the aquarium.

You don’t have to forego enjoying nature just because the weather is keeping you indoors. The Texas State Aquarium can get you a closer look at the goings-on beneath the ocean than you would get at the beach.

10. Have a bonfire and stargaze.

After a long and beautiful summer day, you can gather around the bonfire and enjoy the warm summer night beneath the stars. The Padre Island National Seashore and Mustang Island State Park are some of the best places to stargaze.
