Porcelain Veneers for Gapped Teeth: Quick Treatment, Beautiful Results

If you have gaps between your teeth, you may be unhappy with your appearance. Fortunately, porcelain veneers can improve the appearance of your smile by filling in the extra space between your teeth.

Dr. Nicholas Orchard offers porcelain veneers for gapped teeth at our Corpus Christi, TX dental clinic. The greatest benefit of this treatment process is that it can be completed within a couple of weeks.

How Can Veneers Address Gapped Teeth?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that completely conceal the natural teeth. In addition to closing gaps between the teeth, porcelain veneers can mask discolored, chipped, or worn teeth.

When designing your veneers at our Corpus Christi dental clinic, our doctors will specify that the porcelain shell should extend past the edge of your natural tooth to fill in the gap. Each veneer will be custom designed and fabricated to create the appearance of uniform, well-aligned teeth. The veneers will naturally blend in while enhancing the beauty and symmetry of your smile.

The Porcelain Veneers Treatment Process

If you want to have porcelain veneers placed to address the gaps between your teeth, we will schedule a consultation so we can determine if you are a good candidate for treatment. During the appointment, we will check the health of your teeth and gums, and examine your tooth structure to make sure it is strong enough to support a veneer. Good candidates for porcelain veneers should have healthy teeth and gums; if you have cavities or gum disease, these will need to be treated prior to veneers treatment.

If you are a good candidate for treatment, your teeth will be prepped and the veneers placed over the course of two visits. During the first visit, a small layer of enamel will be removed from the treated teeth. This portion of the procedure may be performed under local anesthetic.

We will take impressions of your teeth, and then temporary veneers will be placed. It will take about two weeks for your custom veneers to be manufactured.

At your second visit, your new veneers will be placed, filling in your gaps and completing the treatment process.

How Do Veneers Compare to Other Treatments for Gapped Teeth?

Veneers are not the only cosmetic treatment for gaps between the teeth. During your consultation at our office, one of our doctors will discuss your alternative treatment options. These may include:

  • Orthodontic treatment: For particularly wide gaps, we may recommend Invisalign® or braces. These orthodontic treatments take longer, but they have the benefit of moving your natural teeth into better alignment.
  • Dental bonding: This treatment uses tooth-colored composite resin to reshape your tooth. Dental bonding is less expensive than orthodontic treatments or porcelain veneers, but the results do not last as long. Dental bonding may be a good choice if you want a more affordable option or faster results.
